The Place Vendome between the rue de Castiglione and rue de la Paix is one of the most famous squares in Paris. Listed as an historical monument, the Place Vendôme is closely linked to the history of France?
Napoleon decided in 1804 to raise in the centre of the square a column This column is comprised of a stone core, encased in the bronze of 1250 cannons captured at the Battle of Austerlitz. It was built from 1806 to 1810. Until the French revolution, a statue of Louis XIV stood in the middle; it was replaced by the column we can see today and which is topped by a statue of Napoleon. It illustrates the aesthetic principles which chaired during the period and which one also finds in Versailles: the sense of greatness, underlined by the simplicity of lines and the purity of forms.
The Place Vendôme combines luxury and elegance with extreme refinement. The most prestigious jewellers - Chaumet, Carter, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Mauboussin, Chanel.
